Double-Elimination - A double-elimination tournament is a type of elimination tournament competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost two games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only one defeat results in elimination... My Teammates and I rest our case.

I'd say it's time for Google to step up their game in the Social Networking world... Blogger has been losing out to Wordpress already. Fortunately, YouTube is still ahead of Hulu by a lot.

Kedar,

Definitely check out Douglas Crockford. You can see his videos and lots of other great talks at <a href="http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/theater/" rel="nofollow">YUI Theater</a>. John Resig also has written a couple of really good books that are worth checking out.

As far as "Where JavaScript meets Rails"... I tend to view them as completely separate. I generally don't use Rails for UI work at all. My Rails views typically only contain 1 or 2 divs that are used as placeholders for the JavaScript UI framework.

I tend to view my Rails projects as 2 separate apps (even though there is only a single server instance). I use Rails to create a RESTful API and then create a client-side JavaScript application that communicates with it via AJAX. I like the separation as it allows me to easily swap out the client application (completely independent of Rails) and also gives me the flexibility of adding additional client applications without having to rebuild the entire app. One example would be adding a mobile app as a complement to your web app. In this case, the only additional development that you need to worry about is the UI for mobile devices. Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Jed

Thank you!

I think this is a sane advice. I have been thinking about why JavaScript has been rather "suppressed" in Rails literature. As someone who wants to do a website, I think the user interface on the browser is absolutely crucial. It's not terribly clear what a Rails developer needs to do in this case. Web development is kinda complex. Getting your Rails, Ruby itself right takes a heavy toll. JavaScript and/or jQuery must be mastered if your website has to be anywhere near "usable website". But mastering JavaScript is not easy. Do you recommend any resources especially for something like: "Where JavaScript meets Rails"?

What do you think about Spotify versus some of the other music steaming solutions out there, like Pandora or GrooveShark?

I think I read somewhere they don't even host the music in the US? I don't know if that's accurate but if it is, I'm surprised it's not available elsewhere.

At least you guys get Spotify. Jealous!

Ahh, we've been wasting a lot of time in turntable at Clockwork too. Sometimes it's great! Other times people feed off of each other and roll with music I can't stand, which sends me running back to my comfort zone - personal playlists in iTunes.
